Simple Tips to Care for Your Bedding
Kiyko Home bedding will last for years with the proper care. With the correct cleaning and storage, they will continue to be as enduring as they are elegant. To maintain the crisp feel and refined finish of our luxury cotton bedding, we've put together a few simple care instructions.
1. Washing Your Bedding
- Frequency: We recommend washing your sheets and pillowcases once a week to keep them looking their best and to maintain a clean, allergen-free sleeping environment.
- Water Temperature: Use cool or lukewarm water to protect the fabric and prevent fading. Separate bright colors from whites to avoid any color dilution.
- Wash with other natural fabrics only: Washing with synthetic fabrics can lead to pilling in your natural fabrics. Also want to avoid any harmful chemicals that may be on synthetic co-mingling with your 100% cotton.
- Don't Overload the Drum: Try to just wash bedding solo and don't overcrowd your machine. This can lead to more wrinkling and an uneven clean.
- Detergent: Choose a mild detergent that doesn’t contain bleach or harsh chemicals. This helps maintain the softness and longevity of the cotton fibers. We do not reccomend using fabric softeners as they tend to artificially coat your textiles.
- Machine Settings: Opt for a gentle cycle to minimize wear and tear.
2. Drying Tips
- Air Dry When Possible: For best results, lay your bedding flat or hang it to air dry. This helps preserve the fabric's texture. After washing, shake out your damp linens to avoid excess wrinkles.
- If Using a Dryer: Tumble Dry Low or use a delicate setting to keep the cotton smooth and to prevent damage. Shake out your damp linens before and avoid putting in the dryer twisted or in a ball. Do not overload the dryer to give the bedding proper room. We recommend removing the bedding promptly or before it is completely dry to reduce wrinkles.
- Ironing: Percale fabrics generally maintain a crisp finish naturally. If you prefer a crisp look, iron the fabric on a low setting. You can also use a steamer on the bedding to get out any remaining wrinkles that may have occurred in the washing machine.
3. Storage Recommendations
- Clean Before Storing: Always store your bedding in a clean, dry place. If you’re not using a particular set for a while, ensure it’s fully dried to prevent mildew or odor.
- Use a Breathable Bag: Avoid plastic bags; opt for a cotton storage bag or a breathable container that allows air circulation.
- Fold Lightly: When folding your bedding, avoid creasing the fabric too tightly. This helps maintain the smooth finish and prevents creases. Try to fold though and not stuff into a bag as that can cause more wrinkles.
4. Additional Tips for Longevity
- Rotate Your Bedding: If possible, rotate your bedding sets. This minimizes constant wear and gives each set a chance to recover between washes.
- Spot Clean When Needed: Treat small stains promptly with a gentle stain remover or spot clean with cold water. The sooner a stain is addressed, the less likely it will set into the fibers.
- Avoid Overloading Washers: Overloading can lead to uneven washing and increased wear.
